You know those amazing flowers that you turned me on to, that Tracy had the tutorial for ? I think that is a great beginning to a vintage project.
The QOTD today was about choosing paper first or design first - so you know you don't want those Spiderman papers. Helpful, huh. But I would look at paper first for sure.
If I MUST do something that isn't my style I JUST SAY NO ! lol I guess I never MUST do it. So, not much help on that front either...
But I made a steampunk card yesterday, and that wasn't my comfort zone at all (though I wish it were) and I found that I really had to weed out everything in my mind that didn't fit. So my hand kept heading toward those copper colored flowers ... but I didn't do it. Too often I just say, oh it will look ok, instead of keeping to the spirit of the card.
Oh, and I can also suggest you get some inspiration on the web from some of the vintage image sites, like the Graphics Fairy. That always gets me to thinking ....

As time goes by I lean more toward Jan's philosophy. If it ain't me I just don't do it. It stresses me out and the mojo just vanishes. Now if it's a project you can't get out of like a DT submission (wink wink) I try to incorporate some element of my style into the project. Jan's suggestion of the Graphics Fairy for vintage images is spot on. There's so much stuff on there. You should be able to find something that's you. (Hint: they have lots of animals )

Thanks Jan and Tracy...
uummm (wink wink) I can't get out of it. I have a picture of and old rusty tractor that I might try to work with. Vintage doesn't have to be all flowers and lace...does it?

Of course not! Flowers and Lace weren't the only vintage things! I would say, that make something that is more your style, and distress it! Distress inks, sanding and lots of crinkles/tears, etc really help. I've made lots of 'vintage' things that actually aren't all that crazy. I would even say my xmas in july project is slightly vintage....
