I used to be a library gal - but now that I have a Kindle, and have to pay for many of my books, I read a few less books last month.
I Still Dream About You - Fannie Flagg This Year it Will be Different - Maeve Binchey My Sisters Keeper - Bill Benners One Amazing Thing - Chitra Divakaruni The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot Unbroken - Laura Hillenbrand Emma - Jane Austen The Hangman's Daughter - Olver Potzsch Favorite - Karen McQuestion and I am in the middle of Major Pettigrew's Last Stand - Helen Simonson
I have The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo downloaded for my next book. The one thing about having a Kindle is that you cannot see the actual book itself, and I ended up with the very dumb and very very young adult book, Favorite. Too stupid for words. (eek, think Nancy Drew...)

I have Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I just can't get into it. I heard another lady say the same thing but that she stuck with it and by the 4th chapter she was into it. I am reading Little Bee right now and I'm having a hard time putting it down, LOVE IT!! I also read Reliable Wife...hated it. The story itself was okay, I just didn't care for the way it was written. Have I mentioned Roses before here? I LOVED that book, it's long though. I'm gonna have to check out some of the books on your list Jan, I'm always looking for something good to read.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has a very bad rep as far as those first few chapters. I already knew it was pretty dull, but wow, does it deliver as you go along. I am now into the next book, and it promises to be even better. Stick with it !
The one book I would REALLY recommend that absolutely anyone would love is One Amazing Thing - the story of 9 people trapped in a passport office after a terrible earthquake. They each tell a story about one amazing thing that happened to them - you will be sorry when it ends.
I will be back tomorrow, and give a synopsis of the other books, most are pretty darned good.

Here are a couple I really enjoyed last month - I Still Dream about You - a former beauty queen tries to commit suicide but all the little every day things get in the way... Funny The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - a true story of a woman who died in the 1950's, but her cells had the ability to reproduce themselves every 24 hours. Her cells have been to the moon, helped with the polio vaccine, and have done much to advance cancer research. Unbroken - another true story, about an Olympian who was lost at sea during WW2, was saved only to be left in a POW camp in the Pacific. Major Pettigrew's Last Stand - if you like Brit humor, you will love this story about a very uptight retired military man who falls in love with a woman from another culture The Maeve Binchey book I mentioned I had read before, it is a compilation of short stories. If you have not read any of her books I would strongly recommend each and every one of them, she is my favorite author.

Looks like I will have to give The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo another chance.
